What is AOD-9604?

AOD-9604 has 16 amino acids (YLRIVQCRSVEGSCGF, 1,815.1 g/mol) with a disulfide bridge. Unlike full growth hormone, it does not bind the GH receptor to a relevant extent and does not raise IGF-1 in studies.

Research status

In cell and animal models the fragment promoted the breakdown of stored fat and inhibited its formation. Early human studies were well tolerated, but a larger phase 2b trial showed no significant difference from placebo and development was stopped. More in AICAR and AOD-9604.

Status

Not approved in the EU and on the anti-doping prohibited list. Research use only.
