What is adipotide?
Adipotide links a cyclic targeting sequence (CKGGRAKDC) that binds prohibitin on fat-tissue endothelial cells to the membrane-disrupting sequence D(KLAKLAK)2 (2,557.2 g/mol). The concept comes from cancer research, where similar peptides target tumour vessels.
Research status
Rodent and primate models examined how targeted damage to fat-tissue vessels changes fat mass and metabolic parameters. Effects on kidney function were also described and are considered an important safety signal. No completed human studies have been published.
