Structure
Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide (Aib-His-D-2Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂) containing non-proteinogenic building blocks that increase stability against peptidases. It was described in the 1990s as a selective GH secretagogue.
Research focus
In animal models ipamorelin triggers dose-dependent growth hormone release without – unlike GHRP-6 or hexarelin – markedly raising ACTH or cortisol. Further studies address effects on gastrointestinal motility.
Status
There is no marketing authorisation. WADA lists GH secretagogues in category S2.
