Structure
Larazotide (GGVLVQPG) is derived from a protein of the cholera pathogen (zonula occludens toxin). It acts locally in the gut and is barely absorbed.
State of research
Research covers intestinal epithelial permeability, zonulin signalling and clinical endpoints in gluten-sensitive patients in phase III trials.
Status
Larazotide is not approved as a medicinal product.
